The Positive

Positive is joy, satisfaction, contentment, and a feeling of fulfillment.  So how can we focus on the positive when our life seems to be falling apart?

It is so easy to focus on the negative. If you were given information in four sentences about a restaurant you would like to visit and one was a negative statement, which one would you focus on?  I believe we would block out the three positives and just retain the one negative. These negative thoughts have a habit of taking up residence in your brain and wanting to become permanent. Let us face it, feelings of doom and gloom in the brain causes a sad, unhappy existence.  We only have so much time in this world, so why not make the best of it?

Can you picture those negatives just sitting back in their lounge chairs, little green bodies, sunglasses on, drink in hand, and smiling? We have accomplished our mission and our person is sad.  Those are living the dream baby!  Yes! Well, the party is over! Let us evict those pesty little parasites.

There have been many times when we have all been in sad situations — a death of a family member or friend, not being able to go on that vacation to Paris that you planned three years in advance and COVID hits the world, being unemployed, and the list goes on.  Somewhere amidst those sad situations, we need to find a positive focus.

One technique that has worked for me for an exceedingly long time is to put my brain into the “thinking ahead” mode. Next week at this time, my situation will hopefully be over.   I will be in a better place in my mind to deal with the negative circumstances and find a solution.  This works.

Worrying is in my genes and as I have grown older, I have just given it up.  It takes too much energy.  A very dear friend of mine told me give my worry to God.  Once you give it away, you cannot take it back even for a little while.  Sounds hard right?  No matter how much you worry about a situation, you cannot change it. Let God have it, He has bigger shoulders!  The “worry” will just bring on the negatives.  Do you really want to keep those green negatives happy?

I hope that this blog will help someone out there.  Blessings my friends.
