Fairy Tales?

ONCE UPON A TIME….

You are probably wondering why this topic?  Is this blogging grandma too old for love, and a “happily ever after”?  Of course not!!!  We are never too old for a happy ending.  I believe it is something all of us dream about and hope a fairy tale ending will happen to us.  (If not in this life, but the next!)

We all have read them!  Let’s see…

There was Snow White who finally gets kissed by her prince, chokes up the apple, and no more evil stepmother.  It is off to his castle on a white horse.  We hope the evil queen’s mirror has been obliterated, too.

Sleeping Beauty had the same problem—an evil stepmother.  She slept under a piece of glass, surrounded  by flowers, and was kissed by her prince. No poison apple for her, but she did touch the  needle on a spinning wheel which was laced with poison. Guess who did that?  After a loving kiss from her prince, they rode off together to his castle and lived happily ever after.  Very romantic! You’ve got to love it!

Cinderella didn’t go to sleep and get kissed awake by her prince. He came looking for her. Baring a glass slipper, which must have been kept in bubble wrap; he ventured all over the kingdom on  horseback, looking for the right foot. If I remember, Cinderella had the other slipper in her pocket.  Somehow she kept in tact.  Great fit for this lucky girl, and it was off to the palace!  No more evil stepmother and two step sisters.  She lived happily ever after! Cinderella also had a Fairy God Mother.  (Sigh) Wouldn’t we all like one of those?

Many of us are in love and are addicted to the modern day fairy tales produced by Hallmark, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. These happily ever after movies are viewed by millions of women around the world.  Trust me, these companies know what we girls enjoy.

We like the modern-day playboy prince, who goes to work undercover in a firm in New York or Los Angeles.  Prince meets everyday girl,  they fall in love, and fly off to his beautiful, little kingdom nestled somewhere on the European continent.  No more carousing. We have never heard of any of these made up places.  Girl is happy and so are the parents.  These movies  keep us in a state of bliss for 120 minutes.  Sigh!!!! Keep making those movies for our fairy tale hearts! Trust me, they never get old!

Do we really believe this could happen in our everyday life?  Send the prince my way—maybe he needs a grandma. Oh to be young for just one more night!

A true to life fairy tale wedding was when Prince Charles and Diana were married. I got up very, very early to watch the “royal” wedding on TV.  It was definitely a magical event.  There was a beautiful gown, a diamond tiara, and a glass carriage.  As we all know, it soon ended in tragedy.  So sad for all concerned. This modern day fairy tale won’t be in the happily after ever section of the storybook.

Deep in our hearts we all want that fairy tale and would love it to happen just one more day and one more time in our lives.  Of course, we will not admit it.  We are never too old to dream right?

If we don’t have our dreams, what do we have?  It is good to keep them tucked away, and pull them out for a pick-me-up!  These dreams, fairy tales, and wonderful movies keep us in a happy place.  There may be occurrences in your life that no one but you knows about.  Digging into our happy place memory, pulling one out, will  put a smile on our face when we need it. All of us need that get-away place.  And… NO ONE KNOWS WHY YOU ARE SMILING.

Since retiring, I have become an avid reader!  I find myself reading fictional mafia books!  These books contain a love story, where the Don kidnaps the girl.  She hates him for it, but they end up in a very passionate love affair.  (Sigh!)  I guess you could call them, modern day, adult,  fairy tale stories.

Let’s be silly for a moment. To tell the truth, I love silly! After reading a few of these fictional romances, you begin to worry that a big, black SUV, with tinted windows  will pull up in front of your house, big guys get out, knock on the door.  They warn you to stop reading those stories. The “Don” doesn’t like it.  Bring him on! This sounds like a great ending for a book! Let your imagination take over.

There are so many topics to blog about.  Doom and gloom is good once in awhile.  I am striving to keep it light and a fun read. Love and happy endings are all something we need.  “What the world needs now is love sweet love.” A line from a 60’s song.

I hope you enjoyed this blog.  See you next Friday!

Blessings from The Blogging Grandma
