First blog

This should have been my first post, but somehow cyberspace got it. Please enjoy.

“There are two great days in a person’s life—the day we are born and the day we discover why.”

By William Barclay

Life has many trials and tribulations that begin on the day we are born.  When we are young these bumps in the road are the least of our worries. As we grow into adulthood, our trials and tribulations suddenly become a reality. It is time to deal with this thing called life. Learning to stay in the moment would finally get me over these bumps and potholes.

Born to just one parent in the middle of the twentieth century was a huge no-no; especially, if it was in a small town in Central Pennsylvania, where everyone knew everyone.

My brother arrived before me and a sister afterwards.  These births should have been a happy time for all involved but must have felt like three BIG mistakes.  Unfortunately, these “mistakes” would haunt our lives for a very, very long time.  Imagine living in the 50’s having three kids and not being married.  It makes me wonder how we could survive.

I believe we must have lived with our grandma and pap-pap.  This is just an assumption because no one in the family really talked about it.  There are pictures of my brother and me in a baby carriage in my grandma’s yard.  An aunt made a comment that she remembers me in a diaper, holding onto a baby bottle while standing on grandma’s sofa. As I think about it now, maybe this was why I was very close to my grandma, as was my brother.

It is hard to remember back that far, but one memory comes to mind. We lived in a small apartment on West Main Street.  I was about three and had a doll baby stroller. The image that remains is me walking with that stroller to our downtown. My adventure entailed probably five blocks with cross streets!  It’s been told that an item appeared in our local paper about my little adventure.  Hmmm  Famous at three.

This is just a snippet of my early life that would affect how my siblings and I would feel about themselves.

I hope you have enjoyed my walk back through time. It is my hope to help someone with my life experiences.  Sometimes a little bit of information can make a BIG difference.

To be continued…
